The Astro-Naut

The Astro-Naut[edit]

We know so little about him. Only snippets of commentary strewn about in Astro City Rocket Newspaper Headlines, narrative captions, letters pages from the comics, along with write-ups in the old, now archived Astro City Website. He is Astro City's most revered hero. His bravery inspired the grateful citizens to rename their city in his honor. The sacrifice he made, whatever it was, and wherever it happened, occurred during the heat of the Second World War. Beyond that there is little else known. But don't worry, his story is about to be unveiled.

The Hanged Man

Beware the Hanged Man's gaze. It is rare for him to acknowledge your presence, much less look upon you. A Gaze from him usually means a troubling future awaits. Think of it perhaps as a warning that you are approaching a fateful crossroads in your life. A time of more than just change, but also one of great revelation, enlightenment or perhaps a salvation. Maybe you are nearing a crisis moment, one you may not survive.

This is the look that he gave to ordinary citizen, Michael Tenicek. If you are curious about why, you can read about it here...

The Silver Adept

The Silver Adept[edit]

She's one of Astro City’s most powerful mystic heroes. A newspaper article among the Broken Man's odd and mysterious collection, details the heroine Silver Adept's recent move to Astro City and her assisting the Honor Guard in their battle with Mister Mystoro. But that is just part of her very hectic schedule. She is so busy being an "adept" authority on all things mystical, she even has a small staff assisting her.

Stockton and Moreton
They're not cats (that's for sure) and they're not exactly dogs. But they are something cute, sensitive, friendly and while not demonstrated yet, no doubt very protective. Not sure which is Stockton and which is Moreton. but except for color and perhaps gender, they are two of the same species. While their position in Silver Adept's entourage seems to be that of pets, with mystics, you can never be sure, and you should never assume...

Jack-in-the-Box

Jack-in-the-Box[edit]

Jack has been around and about for a long time. His colorful exploits and cavalier fighting style continue to captivate and delight the citizens of Astro City. Especially the youth from the poorer, economically challenged neighborhoods. Jack defends their turf on a regular basis, he seems to be "one-of-them" in many ways. Most of his battles are with street thugs and the lower tier costumed villains; those more interested in get rich schemes rather than world conquering aspirations. He has a long list of adversaries, a gallery of rogues villains, equally as colorful and original as himself. But on occasions, some of the strangest characters cross his path, and the encounters can be downright bizarre.

Mister Cakewalk

Mister Cakewalk[edit]

Like jazz itself, this guy was cool and smooth. He had a dark mission to perform on a brisk winter's night in the early 1900s. He planned to share it. It was just a matter of timing things just right.

Samaritan

Samaritan[edit]

The man who is arguably the greatest hero of the modern era is in fact not from this era at all. Samaritan was a time-traveler from the 35th century sent back to 1986 to prevent the wasteland Earth he was born into from coming about. The transit suffused him with "empyrean fire," giving him enormous physical power as well as the ability to project an "empyrean web."

Samaritan has been a member of the elite superhero team Honor Guard since at least 1991. He is in a romantic relationship with Winged Victory and yes, it is complicated.
