Born with physical anomalies that made him deformed and ugly, Platapopoulous had an early life filled with abuse and humiliation. Derisively nicknamed "The Platypus" at an early age, he determined to have his revenge on those that mocked him by making his childhood nickname into a name to be respected and feared.
Spending time in the Australian Outback, Platapopoulous claimed to have had "dreamtime" visions that gave him mastery over other men, and mystic insights into the ways of power, but there was little or no evidence of this. Even his accent came and went.
His top lieutenant was Deke MacManus and also had Royal Williams working for him. His best asset was probably that he had Pyramid's backing, whenever he got in real trouble with other gangs.
But eventually in the major 1977 Gang War, it was revealed that MacManus was the true power player behind igniting the war and he killed Platypus, essentially taking over organized crime in Astro City.
