In addition to firing burst off as energy blasts, he can utilize the energy's bizarre quality of having solid substance as if it were matter (and perhaps in some way it is) to generate solid constructs. He frequently carries himself (with or without the rest of the family) through the skies by generating flying platforms underneath his/their feet.
Nick's energy is the same kind that his sister, niece, and Augustus's energenerator wield, albeit in other ways.
