Red Cake Day is a specific day of the year on which all sorts of delicious red-colored baked goods mysteriously appear in Honor Guard's headquarters. It has occurred annually since 1991, but an explanation was not forthcoming until 2014, when it was revealed that the cakes were provided by Eth of the QuiQui as atonement for his role in the death of Honor Guard member Stormhawk.

The types of cake provided seem to vary somewhat from year to year; one Honor Guard member mentions that one of this year's cakes is unfamiliar to him.

According to Kurt (via his Facebook page), Red Cake Day is in early November, but the precise date "varies due to dimensional time slippage."

Possibly Red Cake Day was inspired by Elliot S! Maggin's fictional holidays Miracle Monday (from the Superman novel of the same name) and Thirsty Thursday (from Superman #293), although this is purely conjectural.

The QuiQui are mainly a farmer society. Extremely peaceful in nature. They grow Jhef, a grain that they harvest and process into many wonderful foods. It is a prized delight that is highly valued by nearby worlds and they trade generously for a share of the bounty.

The power of the QuiQui dreams, the influence of their wishes, is a magic of sorts, a bit like a clairvoyance skill only more so. It has many uses, including a powerful defense for a peaceful social grouping to protect itself from physically violent predators.

Eth took the role of a lead "dreamer" to protect his peoples from the vicious tyrant, Krigari the Iron Handed. But that came at a cost which is the secret behind the infamous event known as Sorrowsday.

Eth is responsible for Red Cake Day.
-- The Silver Adept
|history =
Some form of protective aura, or perhaps its mere presence is a major deterrent to mystical menaces. At least according to one of the Silver Adept's long-time house guardians. Unless of course, Silver Adept's house guardian is referring to some other new thing.
|observations =
So far, s/he has communicated with only a two word vocabulary, GOMPP! and GOMMP But it would seem that the interpretation is all in the tonality, pace, volume and other finer aspects of audio delivery. All of it on a much subtler, peaceful and refined level that human speech. The Silver Adept also hints at other communication methods when she instructs Orn on setting up living quarters for their newly acquired associate. In addition, there are runes displayed on the body that are perhaps more than just ornamentation. They do change over time, in both content and the intensity of their glowing attributes. It is also possible that they just find a way to communicate a message and it somehow is received.

Both the Silver Adept and creator Kurt Busiek are on record stating "They can make their needs known to you, if you approach them with peace in your heart."

On Facebook, when Aaron Kashtan asked Kurt Busiek for a Tranquility Frog on the grounds that he (Aaron) had been reading Astro City since 1996, Kurt said that there are only six Tranquility Frogs in all of reality, and that Aaron would need to do more to earn one. Kurt added that the reason Tranquility Frogs are so scarce is because of the extreme amount of tranquility required to create one.
