Mister Drama
|
HistoryIn 1958, a man named Frank Darman auditioned at the Starr Theater in Old Town. The audition did not go well, and Darman took his rejection even worse--turning to crime, first by robbing the theater itself and then donning a costume as Mister Drama. In his burgeoning super-villain career, Mister Drama battled a number of Astro City's heroes, including the Silver Agent, Max O'Millions, and Jack-in-the-Box, who would become his greatest foe. Even as he found his plans regularly stymied by Jack-in-the-Box and others, Darman was able to build a small fortune and start a family, including a wife, Jonni, and a daughter, Juliet. Unknown to his family, Darman developed fast-acting cancer from a thermigene gas robbery. Angry over not having made enough of a mark on the world before he would perish, Darman decided that this "mark" would be best realized by killing Jack-in-the-box, despite the protests of his family to give up his "drama games." Mister Drama had a showdown with Jack-in-the-Box on Torres Island and died in the ordeal along with his nemesis when he blew them both up. He had one of his Weirdie minions record the affair for posterity, to "show the world how a legend takes his bows." Unfortunately, the Weirdie did not retreat to a safe distance (thanks to its programming), so the video remained undiscovered until 2016--when it was excavated during a battle between Jack-in-the-Box and Drama Queen, the super-villain identity of Darman's granddaughter Frankie.
